Train to be a doula with The Original Birth Connection
A huge ‘birthly’ welcome to Alex from The Original Birth Connection. Alex works as a doula and covers Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Herefordshire, Bristol, Somerset, Worcestershire, Oxfordshire and Warwickshire. The Original Birth Connection also offers inclusive doula training, I asked Alex to tell us a little more about her training offer.
“In 2020 I founded The Original Birth Connection with the aim of providing trauma informed, inclusive doula training that gave people the time and space to deep dive into the wonders of birth work, whilst supporting them to build successful birth work businesses.
Our approach to birth work is quite radical in the UK for several reasons. Our full Doula training program is 6 months long and includes online self paces learning, in person training, live group session via zoom and masterclasses with experts in their field.
Although I created the training and designed a lot of the content, it includes the work of other dedicated, experienced birth professionals so that all our trainee doulas are exposed to ideas and information from a variety of expert sources with different lived experiences. We cover everything from boundaries and intersectional feminism to optimising birth and the postnatal period, to advocacy and building your birth business.
We place 1-2-1 support at the heart of our learning – whether you choose to take our Full Birth Worker Training Program or our 8 week Immersive online only training program. Birth work through often beautiful and rewarding can be lonely, emotionally taxing work. As doulas and birth keepers we often work alone so having the right kind of support to help us with our work is vitally important. Building a community of confident, knowledgeable doulas was a founding principle of The Original Birth Connection.
Whether you want to do all your doula study from the comfort of your own home or you want to gather in person as well supporting you to learn and digest the information contained within the course and having the time and space to discuss ideas and assimilate your learning is really important to ensure all our trainees are prepared to step into birth work however they see fit.
If you are passionate about supporting mothers and birthing people during their birthing journey and have a have a strong desire to make a positive impact on the lives of families, whilst building a business you can rely on then perhaps becoming a doula is the right path fro your.
